BTCDashboard and iOS 6 - what does mean for Enterprise Customers
Apple’s
new iOS 6 adds a number of exciting enterprise features
that BTC has been working on adding into the BTCDashboard ecosystem since the
release of the first iOS 6 beta in June 2012.
Base line features
iOS 6
includes a number of great features that, whilst they apply to all apps, add
considerable value in BTCDashboard. Siri
in iOS6 lets you launch BTCDashboard using the standard Siri screens, iOS 6 maps
are now able to be launched right from BTCDashboard stories, and Quicklinks,
and Facetime over 3G lets an organization create simple picture based links to
directly facetime another user. iOS 6‘s support for global HTTP proxies help in
enabling a corporate user to set a proxy connection in an provisioning profile
that then apply to all BTCDashboard communications - its a great way to connect
BTCDashboard to a private/on premise server with very simple configuration
settings.
Kiosk mode - and BTCDashboard
iOS 6’s
Kiosk setting - under the Guided Access settings - lets a corporate user set
BTCDashboard as the only app that can be used on an iOS device - ideal for an
iPad set up as a display service or tool used for presenting fixed information
to a mobile workforce. To make life even
easier for the corporate administrator, BTC is introducing our own Kiosk mode
into the next version of BTCDashboard that now lets the admin remotely
configure a BTC client as a ‘kiosk”. Setting a device in BTC Kiosk mode will
result in the BTCDashboard app removing all options for the user to alter the
system - for example removing the Settings button, stopping logout, altering
channel orders or turning on advanced features like USB proxy. iOS 6 plus BTCDashboard Kiosk mode enables
corporate IT to deploy an iOS device as the ideal “self service” platform for
corporate information.
General improvements
Whilst
its hard to point to exactly all the small but important improvements in iOS 6,
in our testing BTC has found that iOS 6 is simply more stable than all previous
releases of IOS. We find fewer crashes,
and improved performance when using BTCDashboard.
Whats Next?
BTC
has been working with iOS 6 now for months and cant wait to see our valued users
getting a chance to use the platform. We
have verified that Dashboard v2.3.2 (the current AppStore Version release in
early September 2012) works great with iOS6 and we are looking forward to
hearing from you about how the improvements in iOS6 help your business.
